Murray Hill, NJ -- April 19, 2002 -- C. R. Bard, Inc. (NYSE-BCR) today announced that, at its April 17 Board Meeting, Herbert L. Henkel was elected to its Board of Directors. Mr. Henkel is chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Ingersoll-Rand, a diversified multinational manufacturer of industrial and commercial equipment and components.
Mr. Henkel was elected chairman of Ingersoll-Rand in May 2000, and has been president and chief executive officer of the company since October 1999. Previous to that, he served as president and chief operating officer from April 1999 through September 1999. Prior to joining Ingersoll-Rand, he served as president and chief operating officer of Textron, Inc. Before joining Textron, Mr. Henkel was president and chief operating officer of Southern Fastening Systems and Unifast Industries, Inc.
Mr. Henkel earned his bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering and applied mechanics and a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from Polytechnic University, New York. He also holds a master's degree in business administration from Pace University, New York. Mr. Henkel also serves on the board of Pitney Bowes Inc. of Stamford, Connecticut.
